Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46: 10
When I was asked to share one word about how I was feeling about this trip to Puerto Rico, I used the word “overwhelmed.” Why would I say overwhelmed, you ask? Well, certainly not for the reasons that would make sense of a short term missions trip, that’s for sure. I’m not nervous about packing for the trip, the weather, the food, the flying, or the new culture. Frankly, I am excited for those things! This will be my third short term trip, so I know how things work, however, being a type A personality, I feel the need to plan for everything and my life these next few weeks are going to be “grab ‘n go” weeks (yes, Puerto Rico too).
I have a crazy schedule leading up to and following our departure. I left Sunday afternoon for orchestra camp at Messiah College to be a counselor and will be here until Saturday morning when I leave to go back to work at Utz for my final two days (Saturday and Sunday)! Monday morning starts New Oxford Marching Band’s camp. I will be working with the band all week, 8 am to 8 pm, until Friday. After camp the part of team that leaves Saturday meets at 3:30 am to head to the airport. Not to mention the fact that I have to pack for Puerto Rico still and I am busy until we leave. My room looks like a war zone with clothes for each trip and week planned out, and bags, bug spray, carry on material, and college things just spread across the entire room. Yikes! When we get back I have to be ready to head out to college on Tuesday, so don’t be surprised if I disappear off the face of the planet.
On the other hand, I am SO excited to be a blessing to the School and Chapel for the deaf and learn about ways to better serve deaf students, teachers, and the people of Puerto Rico when we arrive. I am excited for the experience of working with the students and staying in a different culture. I am so excited to build team unity and get to know the other members better.
PRAYER PARTNERS NEEDED! Please keep me in prayer for my weeks leading up to Puerto Rico. Life is a little crazy now and the prayer of my heart is to be still and know He is God. Also, pray for team unity because I know that we are going to get to know each other probably better than we want to because of the heat and living and working together for two weeks.
